More KAP Testing

Wed, 18 Jul 2007

KAP RigI managed to get some testing of the Ultra-light rig this week. As you can see from the photo, we were trialling both the new rig and the stereo mounted cameras. The new rig is exceptionally light and the design more or less right. Certainly the integrated picavet cross works well and the need for a very lightweight receiver and single servo is great.

KAP rig However, as the second photo shows, the servo isn't strong enough to take the load of the camera, with the drive shaft having a tendency to pivot. It was worth a test but ultimately not good enough. The 2.0mm carbon plate was also a little bendy on the cross. Probably OK, but we are going to upgrade it to 3.0mm plate. As per the original design, we will also integrate a gearbox in to the servo design to take the stress off the drive shaft. I'm pretty hopefull this will be a good re-design.
